Matisse is multi-dimensional. There is a packed programme of live acts from all walks of instrumental music - rock, flamenco, jazz, blues, ethnic, etc. In addition it is known as a traveller's meeting point and a cosmopolitan hangout. The crowd is very diverse - students, alternative types, travellers, live music fans, largely depending on the night - sometimes it may look like a hidden Carmen hangout, other times like a mainstream disco in Canovas. This place tends to attract an older following, in cotrast to the many student bars around. A fairly large venue with a fully equipped stage and plenty of space to dance. When there is no live music, the DJ gives out a delicious and unsusual eclectic mix of various pop / ethnic / soft electronica.
