Bar Pilar has been hosting the tapas banter for over 70 years now. It is a shapshot of the old Valencia, untouched by time, complete with the ceramic decor, antique woodworks, wine barrels and the staff whose families must have been here before the muslims. It is still a favourite place for many locals, attracting more traditional, and often affluent, types. The tapas are nothing adventurous, all the big hits and typical choices of any Spanish bar, but you can expect top quality. Particularly famous are their mussels. Bar Pilar also has a whole range of bocadillos - a more typically Valencian thing. Alltogether, Bar Pilar is a genuine and classy Valencian experience that hasn't sold out to the tourists.
