Sight-seeing Itinerary Suggestions

These suggested plans are for Sight-seeing only - excluding all the other things you wanted to do in Valencia. There may be a fiesta you have come for, or you are here on business, or you want to do some shopping or get plenty of beach time, whatever time is left from that for sight-seeing after substracting - the following suggestions can help

These suggestions will be useful if you don't like planning with maps and / or are short for time and /or just can't be bothered. In contrast to some other publications, they don't simply pile together everything there is in a vicinity, big or small, to present it as a tourist route. They aim to be the most attractive and the most realistic options on seeing Valencia as far as pre-packaged itineraries are concerned, taking into account the quality of sights, the priority in the order of seeing them, the time to get from A to B, the time you will want to spend there, and the physical reality of fatigue. They also resist the band wagons in terms of what is actually worth seeing.

Half a day, in Spanish terms, means from 10am to 2pm or from 4pm to 8pm. It is important if you want to go into any of the sights or museums - they all work these hours, bar the City of Arts and Sciences and the Cathedral. Between 2pm and 4pm is the break between half-days - it is time to rest and to eat - it is actually compulsory since the restuarants won't be open at other times and you would have to walk hungry or settle for something of low quality. Half days on this page are not in suggested order. Which half a day to do first, and in which direction makes no difference and it is just up to your taste - whether you like the beach in the morning and the walking in the afternoon, or the other way round.

One Day (sight seeing in Valencia)

Half a Day 1

  • Dine in a restaurant in the centre

Half a Day 2

  • Get into the river Turia and walk south to appreciate this integral part of Valencia
  • You will get to the City of Arts and Sciences where you will want to spend some time (although you likely won't have the time to go inside)
  • If you have time left - take a taxi to the Port and the beach to appreciate the sunset
  • You could relax in one of the bars there or dine in a typical Valencian restaurant, the beach is famous for them.

Two Days (sight-seeing in Valencia)

Half a Day 2

  • Get into the river Turia and walk south to appreciate this integral part of Valencia. You will get to the City of Arts and Sciences but don't head in yet.
  • Get out of the river and see the Museum of Fallas (providing you are not here in Las Fallas) - this is a must of Valencian culture.
  • Walk to the City of Arts and Sciences. Once you have appreciated all of its angles and beauty, choose the part you like to see inside - do you prefer interactive science (Museo de Ciencies Principe Felipe) or marine fauna (L'Oceanografic). You won't have time to truly appreciate both - that would take around 6-7 hours in total.

Half a Day 2

One Day

This day is more flexible in terms of how long you want to spend in places. It is a long day on foot so the key is - take it easy and rest. The City is a city, so it has plenty of cafeterias and restaurants. Don't be on a mission to complete - when you are tired relax and then see more of it.

  • Walk to the Mercado de Colon
  • From there get into the river Turia and walk south to appreciate this integral part of Valencia. You will get to the City of Arts and Sciences but don't head in yet.
  • Get out of the river and see the Museum of Fallas (providing you are not here in Las Fallas) - this is a must of Valencian culture.
  • Walk to the City of Arts and Sciences. Once you have appreciated all of its angles and beauty, you will probably have time to see it all inside - the interactive science (Museo de Ciencies Principe Felipe), the marine fauna (L'Oceanografic) and the IMAX cinema (L'Hemisferic).

Half of Day 3

Half of Day 4

This could be half a day to take a trip to some of the less accessible (but still great) sights and curiosities of Valencia. For example you could:

  • Book a tour of the MUVIM - an incredible museum. This is the kind of stuff you won't find in that many cities of the world.
  • Visit the Monastery Los Tres Reyes on the outskirts - an atmospheric, moody complex, and wander amongst its arches.
  • Visit the facinating Museum of Valencia History - it is a short metro ride but it is worth it - probably one of the best history museums in the world, and a real eye-opener on Valencia culture.
  • Take a walk in the serene Park at the Western end of river Turia garden, if you want some nature, ponds and tranquility
  • Visit the Lladro factory where you won't only see a large collection of this amazing world-famous porcelain art, but you can also take a tour of how the figurines are made.
  • Football fans could visit the Mestalla stadium and pop in to the stunning Palacio de Exposicion nearby.
  • You could also wander around the charismatic and atmospheric maritime district of Cabanyal, appreciating the uique Valencian ceramics in the building facades, especially on Calle de la Reina
